The Education Network:

International mobilization generated around the issue of women was launched in 1975 under the auspices of the United Nations. It has continued, emphasizing the underestimation of women and the stigmatization of their status in order to generate a genuine collective conscience on their issue. All plans conducted since then, have focused on the urgent need to correct discrepancies and inequality of access for women in the two strategic areas which are education and employment.

The UNESCO and UNICEF in particular have rung the alarm of Africa in 1993 showing that 26 million girls are out of school. The enrolment of girls improved since then thanks to the various programs IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) but remains well below those of boys.

In Mali, in the regions, the education policy has often been at the expense of urban environments; priorities of projects focused on the rural world. Women and young girls from urban milieu have become in the recent decades "the forgotten of the development", since funds emphasize "the authenticity" of rural areas. The second factor of concern for women in urban areas is employment. In fact, women and girls have mostly been confined in areas requiring little competencies, where wages are the lowest and job security is minimal.

In cities, as is the case in Mopti, the focus was on income-generating activities. In the scientific and technical fields that offer more opportunities on the labour and more stable income market, girls and women are a very small minority.

In the Mopti region, the illiteracy rate reached 80% of women. The education network has been a priority for our organization to denounce the limits of IGR (Income Generating Activities) and suggest other development alternatives that can promote equal opportunities between men and women and to enable women to gain access to functions and more rewarding professions; traditionally reserved for men. In addition to the gender analysis and expertise of our operating environment policy in Mopti, we have emphasized the role of women as an engine to bypass traditional values and prejudices about their role and status. The ICT and development infrastructures since decentralization are a niche not to be missed.

For the education network, multimedia proximity centres are currently under development, whose role is primarily to inform and raise awareness on the role of consultants and their work for the people and providing education and basic citizenship to people. Leaders trained at RESO-Femmes are for the benefit of IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) programs and several of them are teachers in the different national languages. They intend to inform and guide the people by holding a weekly citizen presence. For content, and analyses progress of their activities, access is restricted to members and partners...
